Reality Fracture prerelease weekend is here. Worldwide prerelease runs September 25 through October 1, the set hits shelves Friday, October 2, and Triad Wellington is running two prerelease events: Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26, both at 7:30 PM. Seats are $40 and include your prerelease pack.
If you've never played a prerelease: you open six Play Boosters, build a 40-card deck from what you open, and play a few rounds against other people doing the exact same thing. Nobody has a tuned deck. It's the best night to try a new set.
The one thing that separates a 3-0 from a 0-3 at sealed is knowing what the set wants you to do. Every Reality Fracture color pair has a plan baked into its commons and uncommons. Here are all ten.

What's in the prerelease pack
- 6 Reality Fracture Play Boosters
- 1 traditional foil promo card (date-stamped, playable in your deck)
- 1 deck box and 1 spindown die
Mechanics you'll see all night
- Empower Jace — the headline mechanic, and it shows up at every rarity. Empowering Jace either creates a Jace planeswalker token with that many loyalty counters or adds counters to the one you already have. The token has two abilities: pay one loyalty to surveil 1, or pay three to draw a card. Expect a Jace token in almost every game.
- Surveil and foresee — look at the top of your library and decide what stays. Both feed the graveyard, which matters for the next two.
- Threshold — cards get better once you have seven or more cards in your graveyard.
- Prepared — back from Secrets of Strixhaven. Certain spells reward setup you did earlier in the turn or the game.
The five ally-color archetypes: the Hexhaven colleges
The ally-color pairs are tied to the five colleges of Hexhaven.
White-Blue: Fatehold (surveil tempo)
Surveil and foresee constantly, smooth your draws, and build up evasive threats while you keep the pressure on. This deck wins by never stumbling: right land count, right removal, right creature every turn. Prioritize cheap fliers and anything that rewards you for surveilling.
Blue-Black: Theorix (graveyard math)
Mill yourself on purpose. Reach threshold early and your creatures and spells get bigger, cheaper, or both. Self-mill cards are not downside cards here, they're enablers. Count your graveyard every turn.
Black-Red: Stingerquill (burn them out)
Add insult to injury. Cards that deal damage directly to your opponent turn on bonuses for your other cards, so every ping matters. Draft or build aggressive, keep the curve low, and treat any "deals damage to a player" text as a build-around.
Red-Green: Konstrari (build big)
Make Heartwood tokens, turn them into mana, and slam the biggest thing in your pool a turn or two before anyone should be able to deal with it. In sealed this is the pair that best uses the fat rares you open.
Green-White: Vigorbloom (grow and gain)
Grow your creatures in as many ways as the set allows and gain life while you do it. Wide boards, pump effects and lifegain payoffs. Great if your pool has a lot of solid commons and no single bomb.
The five enemy-color archetypes: the Lorwyn Five and their echoes
The enemy-color pairs are built around the Lorwyn Five planeswalkers and their Echoverse counterparts.
White-Black: Liliana's Attrition
Small creatures, over and over. Use the graveyard to keep redeploying cheap bodies until your opponent runs out of answers. Sacrifice outlets and recursion are premium.
Blue-Red: Chandra's Prowess
Cast noncreature spells to trigger your creatures and keep the heat on. Count your instants and sorceries when you build. Below ten and the deck stalls, above twelve and it sings.
Black-Green: Garruk's Bestiary
Big creatures, hunting. This is the straightforward midrange pair: good stats, good removal, and enough fixing to run the best fat creature you opened. When in doubt at sealed, this plan is hard to mess up.
Red-White: Ajani's Army
Put +1/+1 counters on your creatures and go aggro with reckless abandon. Curve out, buff, attack. The best pair if your pool is full of two-drops and combat tricks.
Green-Blue: Jace's Mastery
All in on Empower Jace. Keep feeding loyalty to the Jace token for a steady flow of cards, and pick up cards that grant your planeswalkers extra abilities. Slower, but in a long sealed game the card advantage is real. Kiora of Salt and Sand is the signpost to look for.
How to build your sealed deck in ten minutes
- Sort by color and pull your rares, mythics and every removal spell into their own pile.
- Find your two deepest colors. Bombs and removal decide, not the archetype you wanted to play.
- Match that pair to the plan above and lean into it. Sealed decks that commit to a plan beat piles of good cards.
- 23 spells, 17 lands, 40 cards. Aim for 15 to 17 creatures unless you're in Chandra's Prowess.
- Play your foil promo if it's in your colors. It's legal in your deck.
Cards after the event
Reality Fracture releases Friday, October 2. We'll have Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, Bundles and singles in store and online from release day. Bring your prerelease pulls in and we'll make you an offer on anything you're not keeping. Here's how that works.
See you Friday night.
